Runner and yoga teacher Mike Dennison is the creator and founder of Mike Dennison’s Runners’ Yoga, a program of dynamic yoga postures and core breathing created specifically for runners. Mike began life as a runner, and competed for the University of British Columbia track and cross-country teams. After graduation he trained for many years with an elite group that included many of Canada’s finest distance runners. During this time Mike ran traditional races, including 10 marathons and countless other races from 800 meters to the half-marathon, and some not so traditional races, including the Pike’s Peak Half-Marathon and the Grouse Grind. After realizing he would never make the national team in running, but being intimately familiar with all the good and bad things that running can do to the human body, Mike discovered yoga. He began practicing yoga in 1996, began teaching in 1997, and founded Vancouver’s renowned City Yoga that same year.
Mike has taught hundreds of yoga classes to thousands of students at all levels of yoga experience and has studied extensively with many of today’s finest yoga teachers, throughout North America and abroad. Mike has an extensive knowledge of running anatomy and injury, is an accredited teacher with the Yoga Alliance – yogaalliance.org – at the 500 Hour level, and is the yoga consultant to the SportMedBC Vancouver Sun Run InTraining program.
